(Keynote) Befriending Failure
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Main Conference.
Failure.  It is something that everyone can relate to because everyone has failed at one point or another.  Perhaps it was a new service that users didn’t embrace or a project that missed a deadline.  The fear of failure can keep us from being creative and innovative in our work—or at its worst paralyze us, keeping us from accomplishing our goals.  How can we use failure to our best advantage?  By changing personal and organizational responses to failure we can not only better achieve our goals, we are in a stronger position to meet user needs and exceed user expectations.

(Keynote) Not Just Digital: Redefining our roles across channels
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Main Conference.
While we often talk about the digital world when thinking about our future, the reality is we will need to be stewards of both physical materials and digital objects. More than changing our skillsets, it means changing our perspectives, our approach to our work, and our outlook. It means focusing on the values of creativity, ingenuity, and broad collaboration. How do we make that happen - at our desks, in the conference room, and across the state? How do we inspire each other to take on the unique challenge of supporting the digital and physical needs of our community? By embracing what we do well and thinking creatively about how to use our skillsets, we can create more value for our communities.

Other possible areas of collaboration could include e-resource licensing, the Gold Rush Decision Support System (content comparison) and continuing education. This session will explore some of the new opportunities.

Best Practices in Library Website Management
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Main Conference.
After a year-plus website redesign implementation project - topped off with a LibGuides 2.0 migration - it became apparent a long term website development process was needed at the University of Central Missouri library. To address the issue, the Dean created a Web Usability Team tasked to establish a regular process of maintaining the library’s website. This presentation will summarize the problems that spurred the creation of the Web Usability Team, the implementation of the RedMine Project Management software, and the development of a burgeoning project management model. We will also outline the team’s future goals.

(Keynote) Articulating Our Impact: Strategies for Holistic Library Assessment
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Main Conference.
Demonstrating “value" is a going concern for all types of libraries, particularly in regards to information literacy learning and user engagement with public and research services. How do you create an effective and flexible assessment program that improves understanding, enhances program effectiveness, and compellingly demonstrates the impact of librarian collaboration on the learner/user experience? “Holistic" assessment encourages a comprehensive approach to answering this important question by identifying the effects of diverse educational and public services on a library’s user population. This session will explore a range of strategies for not only evaluating library learning, perceptions, and use, but actively applying data to advocate for and refine our services and programs.

Discovery tools brought one box searching to our patrons, and link a growing number of resources to this interface for user convenience. However, students frequently say the number of results they get with library discovery tools overwhelm them, but then they generally turn to Google even though they encounter far more results. This session suggests this puzzling behavior can be modified through developing critical thinking skills in using the discovery tool and evaluating the results.

The Evolution of EBSCO’s Discovery Service, Plus A Quick Overview of New Products Flipster and Plum Analytics.
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Main Conference.
Touted as the next-generation approach to research, discovery solutions have become a critical component within most academic library systems, playing a vital role in the effort to showcase the value of a library’s collection, providing a unified index and changing the way resources are searched. As libraries have shifted focus from print catalogs and resources to OPACs, e-journals, eBooks, subject indexes and full-text databases, it’s become necessary for the perception and habits of the search experience to evolve as well—for both end users and library administrators.   We will look at recent enhancements and focus on the integration of Discovery Search into your Learning Management System (Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas and others)     There will also be an overview of new EBSCO resources including:

Flipster – Offers quick and easy access to top magazines in an easy-to-read digital format to support and enhance the research experience for college and university students.

Plum Analytics -  This tool helps to categorize, measure and analyze the research taking place at your institution.   Plum Analytics tracks more than 20 different types of artifacts, including journal articles, books, videos, presentations, conference proceedings, datasets, source code, cases, and more.

Signs of the Times: Leveraging Traditional and Non-Traditional Library Skills across Campus
You need this ticket from Eventbrite to sign up: Main Conference.
When a group within IT needed partners to demo its new digital signage, the library was an obvious choice because of its high foot traffic. As we developed content for the signs, we were able to leverage a little design know-how and a lot of instructional experience into becoming the central contact and instruction center for a new campus-wide initiative. This presentation will provide background of our collaboration with IT, unexpected successes of this collaboration, and the ways in which we used these successes to highlight how our library can provide campus leadership as well as services.
